Day 4, April 8, 2013

A great day today! Carlos worked out the recipe for the secret sauce to get the cranky damn sterilizer working. All of the loads were sterile, so we got all 4 cases done. No problems in the OR.  Even tho the patients are very small, we had all of the right sized implants (thank you Exactech!!!!!)
Everyone got back to the hotel in time for Margaritas before dinner. We had dinner together at the hotel, a taco bar buffet sponsored by Medtronic.  We then watched the NCAA final in spanish.  Didn't lose that much in translation.  Interest was intense not so much because of the basketball rivalry but due to the wager between Matt and Carlos H.  The loser of the wager gets to wear a dress on the 3 block walk down to the favored taco restaurant by the ocean. Carlos should make a perfect seƱorita. Expect pictures if he doesn't find a way to change the subject.
We celebrated 2 birthdays  tonight, Dr Norton and Katie. Dr Norton is a lot older than Katie, so we elected not to do the candle thing. He would have been embarrassed by his inability to blow them out without an extinguisher. We did have cake tho. Actually 2 cakes, lots of cake!
Two of three patients were discharged today on post op day 2. This is the same schedule as in Nashville. Amazing. The first trip 18 months ago, the patients stayed in the hospital for 7 to 14 days post op! Down to 2 days in 18 months! It helps that the patients are tough as nails. Beyond the nerve block, there are NO narcotic pain medicines, only Ultram, toradol, and tylenol. There are minimal complaints of pain, only thank you's.
I am totally moving to Mexico.
